Dietary habits play a crucial role in supporting the body's resilience during changing seasons. Ayurveda advocates consuming all six tastes—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent—but adjusting the proportion of each taste based on seasonal demands. For instance, during summer and rainy seasons when the strength is at its lowest, lighter foods with cooling properties are preferred to prevent overheating and dehydration.
Similarly, exercise routines should be tailored to align with seasonal fluctuations in energy levels. In summer and rainy seasons, when vigor is diminished, gentle forms of exercise are recommended to avoid exhaustion and heat-related ailments. Conversely, during early winter and extreme winter, when vitality is heightened, more vigorous physical activities can be embraced to invigorate the body and mind.
Purificatory panchakarma treatments offer further support in harmonizing the body's natural rhythms with the changing seasons. Vamana, or therapeutic vomiting, is prescribed during spring to eliminate excess Kapha accumulated during the winter months. Virechana, or purgation, is recommended in autumn to cleanse the body of accumulated Pitta, while vasti treatments are beneficial for balancing Vata during the rainy season.
